Altar Boyz / Les z'Enfants de choeur

Original Production Conceived by MARC KESSLER and KEN DAVENPORT
Book by KEVIN DEL AGUILA, Music and Lyrics by GARY ADLER and MICHAEL PATRICK WALKER

A foot-stomping, rafter-raising, musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band at the end of their national "Raise the Praise" tour. The Boyz are five all-singing, all-dancing heartthrobs: Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham. The production was bilingual, with alternating performances in French and English.

This show was something of a departure for me. I approached the lighting as though I was designing for the Boyz' concert, which gave me the chance to play with angles and colors I don't get to use often. Lots of smoke and fog, too. On the other hand, each song had a message, and each character had a story and development, so I couldn't just create it as "eye candy", there had to be something to draw the whole piece together.
